Bad Bunnies: Dark Cottagecore Rabbits with a Gothic Twist
This Bunny Ain’t Scared book details
Up After Midnight pocket watch detail
There’s something irresistibly enchanting about rabbits, symbols of innocence, curiosity, and quiet magic. But what happens when those gentle creatures wander into the shadows of a gothic library, where Icelandic poppies bloom among stacks of haunted novels and candlelit perfume bottles shimmer with mystery?
That’s the world of Bad Bunnies, a new series of original 8”x8” mixed media paintings by New Mexico artist Renee Machan. Equal parts playful and uncanny, these works capture the cozy, bookish heart of cottagecore while adding a dark, romantic twist. Perfect for collectors who love nature, literature, and just a hint of rebellion, each piece invites you to linger a little longer in the in-between spaces where whimsy meets the uncanny.
A Series of Curious Rabbits
Each painting in Bad Bunnies features a watchful rabbit tucked among books—some classic, some with deliciously eerie titles—surrounded by blooming Icelandic poppies and set against moody, gold-flecked backdrops. The effect is both cozy and otherworldly, a reminder that even the smallest creatures can carry mystery in their quiet gaze.
Classic Horror and a Flop Eared Bunny Rabbit
This Bunny Ain’t Afraid, brings a tan lop-eared rabbit into focus. Perched beside a stack of classic horror fiction, this brave bunny is surrounded by vivid red poppies that seem to glow against the dark, moody backdrop. Flecks of gold shimmer like stardust, adding both elegance and mischief. This piece explores the line between innocence and the uncanny, reminding us that gentleness doesn’t shy away from shadow.

Alice in Wonderland Vibes
Up After Midnight, features a grey bunny nestled among suspenseful horror books. A delicate perfume bottle serves as a vase for bright poppies, while a pocket watch rests nearby, a symbol of curiosity, time, and transformation. The inky black background, speckled with flecks of shimmering gold, turns the scene into something both magical and just a little haunted.
Cozy, Spooky, and Collectible
Bad Bunnies is my delightfully original take on spooky season for all the cozy, cottagecore girlies (and anyone else who adores art that feels both romantic and rebellious). These paintings are perfect for adding a touch of moody magic to your home, whether you’re building an art collection, decorating a book nook, or simply celebrating the season with something special.
